Sneak Peek: The New Coverleaf Reader
![]() |
At the end of March, Texterity will launch its beta release of the Coverleaf Reader with a core feature set that includes an updated design, new revenue generation tools and additional functionality, all which will be a boon to digital publishers. Beta 2 and live releases are scheduled for May and will include clipping and airplane mode features. The redesign will specifically introduce IAB ad display, one-click social networking and “i-frame” technology that imports a digital edition into a website or e-mail. "This web reader increases reader engagement, broadens social networking systems and creates the first real program for concrete revenue generation,” says Texterity founder and president, Martin Hensel. “We expect to bring all our publishers on board during the months ahead and work closely with them to maximize these new capabilities." The new Coverleaf Reader will include “Hot Zones” to enable smoother page turning, as well as expandable or collapsible tabbed drawers for navigation ease and customizable branding opportunities. Texterity will continue to be browser-based, which as always helps readers view their digital edition on computers and mobile devices without additional software. While current Texterity staples like blow-ins, sponsorships, custom links and animated graphics will remain, the new reader will introduce a drawer on the left side of the page allowing users to see the table of contents and content simultaneously. "We see tremendous potential in the versatility of the Coverleaf Reader,” says Robert Keenan, vice president of online media for Edgell Communications. “It is very much in keeping with the innovation and insight we've grown to expect from Texterity." Specific features will include a thumbnail view of the pages, a separate drawer to search content or archived issues, and the ability to see back issues at a glance. An expanded navigation bar will also offer more functionality, with direct page- to- page access, one and two page views, a full-screen view, size slider for selectable adjustments, as well as the option to e-mail to a friend, post an article or spread to a social media network, link to blogs and add custom widgets. The new Coverleaf Reader will also feature discussion groups for threaded conversations such as chats with writers and hosted forums. While the “Coverleaf” name is derived from Texterity’s consumer magazine service at www.coverleaf.com, the redesign will occur for both Coverleaf and non-Coverleaf digital titles. Transition to the upgraded interface comes at no additional cost for publishers who already use Texterity. Current and new customers will be phased in during the months ahead.
